Your girl has started a long form video series, it’s called Second Helpings and it’s going to live here on The Late Plate, for my favourite people in the world, you - my readers.
Let me explain…
Writing this newsletter and being here on Substack is the highlight of my working week. I love writing recipes for you, I love sharing guides from my travels, I love getting to interview other chefs and food writers and I love doing it all here, for YOU. I had been planning to start a YouTube channel this year, where I would launch a long form video series, and as I got into the planning of it all, I asked myself the question - why not give it to The Late Plate? The answer was simple, why wouldn’t I? You are all my biggest supporters, you make it possible for me to live the life I live, to work the way I work, to make this my living. And let me be clear, making a series like this is no small feat, it requires lots of planning, spending (!), scheduling, filming, editing, designing and curating to get it to this stage. I’m not working alone, this series is a collaboration with my talented cousin Jake who takes care of the videography and editing. My sister in work, Virginia Malavasi has done all the digital design and my real life actual brother, Thomas Kellett, has written the music.
All this is to say, I’m really proud of this work and I couldn’t be happier to be sharing it exclusively with my paid subscribers here on Substack, as a thank you for all the support you already give. Who’s to say if it will live here forever, one day I might decide to share on YouTube too, but one thing is for sure, as a subscriber to The Late Plate, you will always get my best work, before anyone else, and you will always be my priority.
Now that my love letter to my readers is out of the way, let me tell you about the very first episode of Second Helpings - all 24 minutes of it! Every two weeks we will be releasing a new episode, they’ll be made up of recipes, travel vlogs, behind the scenes footage, food guides, full dinners at the warehouse and much much more. This week, for episode one, we started at the very beginning of the Suppers story, the supper club I run with my housemate and friend Virginia. I go into the full story, how it started, how we make it work financially, the challenges and perks of running it from our house and much much more. Have you ever thought about starting a supper club but wondered what they might actually mean?
